Summer Sun!
We're so excited! Jonas was offered the position today he'd been hoping to hear about all week. I'm so proud of him! I knew something would come along, now he can finally get out of a position in which he felt he could get laid off any day. Hopefully he'll be under less stress in that respect, now, although the new job might be more stressful than the last in other ways. It's amounted to about a 30% raise, which will be nice. We'll finally be able to buy a house this coming year after having already been financially ready for quite a while, but not daring to make such a huge investment with such job instability. House, yard, pets, kids(??), here we come!

With his new job he's alotted $125/mo. for a cell phone, so after I got home from work today we headed to the mall to check out the phone kiosks. I've always been against having a cell phone purely on principle, having been so turned off by how inconsiderate people become while using them. However, since Jonas needs to get one for work anyhow, we thought we might as well each get one and go with a family plan. I found a cute blue one I liked. Of course, being a girl I'm generating my opinion based almost solely on its appearance. :)

While at the mall we bought tickets for the 10:30pm showing of the new Bond movie, the name of which escapes me at the moment, so we'll be leaving home in a few minutes for that. The earlier one was completely sold out (I think today's the first day).

LTA, here I come!

Summer Sun!
Well, I'm proud to announce I've interviewed for and accepted the new LTA position at the library. I had my interview Thursday the 12th, the day before we left on vacation. I was grateful to have had it scheduled beforehand so that I wouldn't have to think about it while on the trip!

We returned home on Sunday the 29th and I was scheduled to be back at work on Monday at 12:30pm. That Monday morning (yesterday) Katie phoned me at home and offered me the position! I thought my interview went OK and Katie said I'd done well, but I was sure there were probably candidates with more experience than I have. But I guess the fact that I already work in the building, am already familiar with our equipment and that I've been pretty much acting as the LTA for about the last year anyhow were going for me. Woohoo! I'm excited to start my training and find out what it's all going to be about, plus -- most importantly -- it's a better pay scale! I officially begin on Oct. 7, but I will continue to do a lot of the same things I'd been doing before for a while until they are able to hire and train some new staff (we're 64 hours short per week in circulation now).

No longer a lowly clerk

Summer Sun!
Tired.

Just got home from work and threw some corndogs into the oven. Jonas should be home any minute. So I had this song "Come and Get It" in my head, but I didn't know who did it so I had to check online. Turns out it's Paul McCartney? I'm a fan of The Beatles and Paul himself and somehow I never realized this?? In my defense I don't think it sounds distinctively McCartneyish. :)

Work was relatively uneventful. Today the Human Resources weekly bulletin of open positions, retirements, resignations, promotions and reassignments came out and I was in it!! I recently was promoted to a PSA (Public Service Assistant) from a lowly clerk. My responsibilities don't really change, but it's a nicer pay scale (though still peanuts). Several people have congratulated me, so that was fun!

Yeah, baby!

Summer Sun!
Finally, after much anticipation, Jonas signed his new contract today and got a little over 22% raise. It will be so nice to feel a little more freedom when deciding what we'd like to spend on and what we NEED to spend on. As they say, money isn't everything, but boy it sure makes life easier sometimes. :) :) It will be a lot easier to start putting away for a house now.

I worked until 9pm and was graced with a splitting headache when I got home. I felt like playing games or something until Jonas got home, but I was in agony and couldn't concentrate on anything. I had the Vikings game turned on in the livingroom and I was listening to it while on the computer. They lost -- AGAIN. They lost last week to Tampa Bay and last night to Green Bay, and on Monday Night Football, too. So now they're 8-2. Let's hope they can get their act together again next week.
